The Ankh and Tree of Life Rosary
An ancient symbol, the Ankh has such a beautiful rich history and holds so much meaning.
The Rosary is an ancient devotional item, originally made as flower garlands, representing a connection between the spiritual and the earthly, serving as a tool for mindfulness and spiritual balance. Rosaries have been made from seeds, wood and stones, today we use beads.
Spirit of Knockmany Rosaries are made following a traditional design with my unique interpretation. Crafted to embody deep spirituality and to reflect sacredness, each element I choose, from colours, materials, natural crystals and symbolic charms, are chosen to create a divine atmosphere prompting you to use them often. Please note that I have not made them to be worn as a necklace, but rather to be held.
This Rosary has been made using mainly Black Lava beads, several frosted black onyx beads interspersed with beautiful deep maroon silver lined glass beads to add interest and vitality. Black lava with Black onyx symbolizes grounding and inner strength. Lava beads relate to rebirth due to their origins deep within the Earth, while Black onyx is deeply revered in spiritual and metaphysical circles as a powerful tool for protection. The inclusion of Maroon, brings it all together as it represents intense spiritual strength, grounded energy, and deep transformation
I have used antique brass for the focal elements in this Rosary, the Tree of Life, a universal symbol representing the interconnectedness of all life, grounding (roots) paired with spiritual aspiration (branches), and the cyclical nature of growth, death, and rebirth, as it bridges the earthly and divine realms, symbolizing wisdom, strength, protection, and family ancestry!
Finally finishing the piece with a beautiful Antique Brass Ankh. The symbol for the Ankh, a teardrop-shaped hoop with a cross connected directly below, is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol representing "life," commonly known as the “key of life". Dating back to the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150–2613 BCE), a potent symbol that encapsulates profound spiritual concepts such as life, death, rebirth, and the interconnectedness of all existence. The Ankh was associated with the goddess of fertility and motherhood, Isis, and is often linked with the tyet (Knot of Isis), representing a magical knot or belt.
Known to signify immortal life, the union of heaven and earth, and the balancing of opposing forces (like male and female) it embodies the essence of the human condition and represents the profound existential questions we all consider about life and death. Often depicted in the hands of gods and pharaohs, and said to represent the sun, air, and water as vital life-giving elements, it was used as a symbol of divine power and protection.
During the first century, as the Christian gospel spread throughout Egypt and the Nile Valley, Coptic and Nubian Christians used the symbol of the Ankh (already thousands of years old) to reinterpret their newly found Christian faith. By the 4th century CE, early Coptic Christians adopted the symbol as a variant of the Christian cross, representing Christ's promise of everlasting life.
If you want your Rosary to be worn, I will need to remake it, adding in beads to lengthen it in some way, there would be an extra charge to restring the Rosary of £15. Moreover, if you would like something made specifically for you of a particular length, we can discuss that. Bespoke items will require a non-refundable deposit of 30% payable in advance. Or perhaps you have something you would like included, always glad to co-create your vision if possible.
