The Hawthorn tree produces a very calming herbal tonic which releases blocked subtle
energies and opens the heart to giving and receiving love. By releasing stress, it enhances
the person’s ability to let go and trust. This native herbal tea I believe is as beneficial as
drinking Cacao for opening the heart. May be imbibed to heal broken Heart!
Powerful healing indeed.
Hawthorn (crataegus monogyna) also known as May Tree, Quickthorn, Whitethorn,
Haw, Hagthorn, or just Thorn. The berries go by the names of Pixie Pears and Cuckoo
Beads. Native to Ireland the Hawthorn flowers in May, the beautiful white/pink
blossoms have a strong heady smell; harvest them with the leaves through of June.
We forage for the deep red berries locally in Knockmany Forest during the month
October, we then wash them dry them and store them.
Hawthorn is one of the most scientifically validated of our herbal medicines, a primary
remedy for all problems of the heart. Drunk regularly as a pleasant tea, it relieves palpitations,
angina, hardening of the arteries, water retention and poor circulation. It will regulate high
or low blood pressure, depending on the need, and gently brings the heart to normal function,
improving its general condition. It is safe to take this excellent herb regularly in old age, and
for any nervous conditions including stress and insomnia. A poultice of the pulped berries
and/or leaves has strong drawing powers, and has long been used for embedded thorns,
splinters, and whitlows.
Suggestion: Put one tablespoon of dried hawthorn berries in a cup of boiling water and let infuse
for 15 mins, drain and drink 3 times daily as a healthy preventative measure.
I don’t prescribe so always consult your doctor before taking herbal remedies.
